Portrait Session for 2 Sisters: Penny and Lucy

Not too long ago, these two pretty girls came for a portrait session. They aren’t really sisters since they are totally unrelated. But they love each others like sisters! Lucy, on the left, had the best smile during the entire session. She really enjoyed showing off her pearly whites! Penny, the Golden Retriever on the right, was a bit more serious for some of her shots.

Penny’s smile just makes me smile.

Happy Golden Girl

The American Kennel Club describes the Golden Retriever as outgoing, trustworthy and eager-to-please family dogs“. Penny definitely fit the description. She was so friendly and outgoing, that she kept wanting to visit with David and me rather than to sit still. She was a pretty rambunctious pup when she wanted attention, but she really had a way of working the camera when she did sit still. During those split seconds, she was very photogenic.

Look at that grin on Lucy’s face!

Photogenic All-American Girl

When Carol called to book a pet portrait session for her girls, she told me that Lucy was getting a little older (8 years old) and she had no good photos of her pretty black girl. Black dogs are definitely a challenge for most folks to photograph because that black fur just soaks up the light. Inside snapshots turn out looking like faceless black blobs. Outside, they pick up the green color cast from the grass and they STILL sometimes look like black blobs. As a professional, I love being able to immortalize dogs of all kinds, even the difficult ones like over zealous puppies and dark black dogs.

Both girls even settled a bit by the end of their session. And who wouldn’t want to see those happy faces smiling at them every day?

And with that, I leave you with this parting thought…..

A dog will teach you unconditional love. If you can have that in your life, things won’t be too bad. – Robert Wagner
