The Crop

Crop of Misty Morning

[Click the image to see a larger photo]

I took a few minutes to try the crop that was suggested on my photo “Misty Morning”.  I must admit that I do like it!  The pano crop gives it a totally different feel.

I still like the original version for all of the reasons that I said yesterday.  But I love the details that are more obvious in this one.  What do you guys think?

I REALLY like the cropped one. I didn’t think I’d like it more than the original, but I actually think I do. The original was beautiful, but this one really catches your eye and your imaginationl.

I like both, but in differnt ways. With the original, I get a better sense of the setting and my eye is drawn into the scene then back out. It has a nice sense of scale. The boulders in the front do have a way of saying “look but don’t touch”, holding me back from the vibrancy of the rest of the image, and making me want to either walk around the edge of the lake or plant myself on a bench.

The cropped is more “in your face, here’s the photo”. (That may make it a better “competition image”.) The colors are more consistent and balanced throughout the image and are a little more pleasing, but the photo has a more two dimensional feel. I get the feeling I’m on the water and can reach out and touch the fog. I really like both, but in different ways.

To me, both need rusty brown or black matting around them, and the cropped needs more stroke line (border) around it. When I get to the edge of the photo, my eye falls out of the image.

Both are great photos, and really give me a sense of being there again. I have some similar photos. Thinking about your two photos and my thoughts on them has made me want to revisit mine.

Thanks for the comments! As to David’s comments re: the missing stroke line on the crop…..that’s an Oops! I forgot to apply a new one after I cropped the version that had a keyline. That’s what happens when you get in a hurry.

Another thought… I wish I could see just a touch more sky on them for more depth.

Hmmmmm……maybe. I’ll play with that idea.
